Responsibilities

The Description:

The Claims Assistant is responsible for providing general support to the Kaufman Claims team. The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to monitoring incoming claims, setting up new claim files electronically, assigning new claims to the claims handlers, running various monthly, quarterly or ad-hoc reports, and updating claims policies and procedures as directed by the Manager of Claims.

Responsibility:

  • Monitors incoming claims to the claim inbox, promptly assigns to claims file handler, confirms coverage with underwriting unit and opens claims in the claims management systems
  • Prepares and sends out claims acknowledgements to brokers/underwriters associate with the policy
  • Responds to broker inquiries and directs requests for status of claims to appropriate claims file handler
  • Prepares loss runs, bordereau reports, and various claim reports on a monthly or quarterly basis to brokers, underwriters or members of claims management team
  • The role requires communication with several stakeholder groups, including London brokers and claims personnel, company representatives, claimants, insured’s, retail brokers, general agents, independent adjusters, and attorneys
  • This role will be primarily a data entry/support role with an opportunity to learn the claims handling process and eventually advance to a claims analyst role

Qualifications

  • One to two years of administrative experience, claims specific experience preferred but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience or College Diploma
  • Actively working towards Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interpret documents, reports, manuals, and correspondence
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel and related software
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and display strong analytical thinking
  • Excellent customer service/relationship building skills
