    Responsibilities

    The CIO will define and deliver the IT strategy and capabilities across the enterprise. This is a rebuilding of the function and acknowledging the critical importance of IT within the company.

     

    As the company grows and the industry changes, technology is becoming a major driver of the brand. IT needs are becoming more complex and the demands rising. This newly defined CIO role recognizes the changing nature of IT within the company.

     

    This leader will set the overall strategy and direction for Information Technology at Kaufman, serving as an IT subject matter expert, updating leadership on key technological advancements with relevance to its work, and ensuring that IT considerations remain at the forefront of key firm-wide deliberations. The CIO will lead short and long-term IT planning and oversee the execution of strategic projects for 15 companies with different business models and multiple enterprise systems.  

     

    Leading a large team, the CIO will be forward thinking and guide long range planning, recognizing the need for changes and adjustments as needed. This will be done while ensuring successful execution of complex system projects and programs.

     

    It is critical for the CIO to build strong and productive relationships with all business leaders, acting as a partner and making IT a business enabler.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop an IT vision, strategy and roadmap, and lead the IT team and its business partners in effective execution
    • Ensure that current and planned technical architecture, investments and solutions are aligned with the company business objectives, short- and long-term
    • Proactively, create a strategic financial investment plan for rebuilding IT infrastructure ensuring that funds are being spent in alignment with the firm’s mission and goals and realizing a return on its IT investments
    • Deploy systems and tools that advance the Kaufman mission and goals and increase efficiency and effectiveness
    • Provide a focus on Applications development and support, in addition to Security and Infrastructure
    • Prepare and monitor IT operational budgets that meet prevailing objectives and constraints
    • Build strong relationships with business leaders across the enterprise and develop a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges and opportunities
    • Maintain high standards of performance, including a high level of IT service across all systems, and to support collaboration with colleagues across the firm
    • Communicate IT activity, as appropriate, across the firm
    • Assess the IT team and implement an appropriate and effective IT organizational design to support the needs of the company
    • Hire, develop, evaluate, reward and retain a highly-qualified team of IT professionals
    • Ensure the organization has strong systems analysis and project management skills, and the ability to execute business-critical projects
    • Establish metrics for managing IT effectiveness
    • Establish appropriate service levels and the processes to ensure that KPIs are met
    • For all IT projects, ensure that commitments are properly planned, staffed, monitored and executed
    • Establish IT policies and processes
    • Monitor the industry for developments in IT operations and trends; evaluate and implement relevant new tools
    • Establish criteria for vendors and ensure proper oversight of service agreements

     

    Qualifications

    • At least 15 years of relevant, progressive experience in IT including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership position
    • Prior experience as a CIO is preferred by not required
    • Experience in the property and casualty insurance industry is strongly preferred
    • Strong background in project management design and execution
    • Experience leading short- and long-term IT planning in highly matrixed, growing environment with complex IT systems
    • Has successfully implemented large systems
    • Established track record of driving and delivering results
    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field
    • An advanced degree in a related field such as computer science or business is preferred
    • Visionary thinking, communication skills, and organizational savvy to contribute to high level of internal deliberations and decision-making
    • Can create a clear strategic vision for IT that supports business objectives and can execute on that vision; can flex readily to tactical as well; hands on approach
    • Strategic business orientation and acumen and the ability to define and prioritize efforts based on business direction and needs
    • Executive presence; builds respect and trust with all levels in the organization
    • Leadership, innovation and decision-making skills
    • Ability to influence at all levels
    • Skilled at hiring and retaining key talent
    • Excellent time and project management skills; a record of completing tasks on time and within budget
